Mary came to UT in spring 2008 to work as an Extension Assistant in the UT Organic & Sustainable Crops Production Program where she helped organize organic grower workshops, obtained certification status for the UT Organic Crops Unit, and helped spearhead the UT Organic Crops Internship Program and establish the UT Farmers Market.

She received her Ph.D. in Plants, Soils and Insects with an emphasis in Integrated Pest Management from the University of Tennessee in 2012. Her dissertation was on the use of naturally occurring biopesticides to manage cucumber beetles in organic systems. Her M.S. was in Entomology from the University of Minnesota, with an emphasis in ornamental and landscape IPM. Her thesis was on non-target effects of neonicotinoid pesticides on monarch and painted lady butterflies and green lacewings. Mary received her B.S. degree in Horticulture with an emphasis in Sustainable Agriculture from the University of Minnesota in 2003.

Mary is now an Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota.
